Paradox of Resilience
Fall 2018 Harvard Graduate School of Design Critic: Sergio Lopez-Piniero Collaborators: Xijia Zhang, Yun-Ting Tsai Location: Sea Islands, GA This project uses mapping as the primary tool in understanding the future of the Sea Islands off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. We looked back at the history of human inhabitation and the systems that propelled these forms of human use from Savannah’s slave trade to 19th century ideas of health and hygeine. Tybee island is the common link between these varied histories. These maps seek to ad depth to the narrative around sea level rise and adaptation and proposes a land easement that disincentivizes investment in development that only increases resident’s vulnerability to climate change related stressors.
